Empowering Low-income Communities to Self-manage Bedbug Infestations by Early Detection and Eradication

This project aims to increase public knowledge on bedbug prevention and control by conducting health promotion campaign aimed at low-income communities, hence reduce the occurrence of bedbug infestations in Hong Kong. Health promotion campaign, including public seminars, education materials and videos, will be conducted to introduce affordable and effective bedbug eradication methods to the underprivileged. The team will also visit infested households to provide tailored recommendations and demonstrate simple bedbug management strategies.

Skin Of Love, which denotes the virtue of loving without boundaries among different communities of color, aspires to dismantle the racial barrier and promote the sense of interculturalism to ethnic minority children with diverse cultural backgrounds in Hong Kong, for the sake of building a harmonious society with individuals from different cultures which used to be regarded as dichotomy in Hong Kong. A series of activities, including cultural workshops, picnic day and field trip, will be organised to help ethnic minority students to integrate into Hong Kong.

This project collaborates with Hong Kong Alliance for Rare Disease to serve patients with rare disease and their families or caregivers to foster their motivation and happiness in daily life. 1-day community exploration will be held to encourage patients to go outdoors and advocate self-exploration of different districts among rare disease patients. The team will also produce videos and online promotion materails to raise the awareness of the general public towards rare disease.
2020-2021 Fujia Shenzhen Program

Project Location: Shenzhen
The project collaborates with a local community center in Shenzhen to provide voluntary services to migrant children in Shenzhen to enrich their afterschool lives. The team will spend 5 weekends holding activities covering various areas such hygiene, Chinese traditional culture and science to broaden children’s horizon.
2020-2021 Fujia Yunnan Program

Project Location: Yunnan
Fujia Yunnan Flame Program is newly initiated by Fujia in 2020. The program aims to provide voluntary services to children in poor mountain areas of Luozehe, Yunnan. In this program, 10-day voluntary activities will be conducted to broaden children’s horizons and to equip them with skills for life-long learning. Furthermore, the team will conduct home visits to communicate with the guardians as an attempt to tackle the issues from the perspective of family education. Through this program, the team would investigate the root cause of the issues of children in poor mountain areas and provide support correspondingly.
Friends on Board

This project aims to raise the public’s awareness of microaggression and attenuate microaggression through board game. The team would design a board game with the theme of microaggression. CUHK volunteers and senior secondary school students will be trained to conduct board game sessions for junior secondary school students. Participants will learn about behaviours associated with microaggression and how to avoid it in daily life throughout the game.

This project aims to promote mental wellness of CUHK students and act as a stress-reliever during the pandemic. The project can be divided into two parts, the first part is consisted of talks delivered by professionals to raise awareness towards different mental health issues and provide self-care tips; while the second part will be a series of themed workshops to promote mindfulness and reduce stress of the CUHK students.

The project aims at empowering ethnic minority children in Hong Kong, especially children of asylum seekers, to increase their understanding on the local community and develop a sense of belonging to the community. At the same time, volunteers are expected embrace different cultures and understand the difficulties faced by asylum seekers. Through interactive cultural activities and Cantonese workshops, service targets would experience Hong Kong culture and enhance their Cantonese speaking ability.

This project aims to enhance integration between people of different ethnic backgrounds through story-telling and co-creation of community maps. Local youth will be recruited to attend the workshop of cultural sensitivity training. Ethnic minority youth will be invited to a human library session to share their stories of living in Hong Kong. Local and ethnic minority youth will then co-create a community map depicting places with special cultural meaning. The map will be published to raise awareness of cultural diversity.
“Kong-nection” South Asia Children Service Project

The project is designed to help South Asian children to adapt to the local community by introducing the local cultures to them. A series interactive activities will be held to promote cultural exchange between local youth and South Asian children. Activities including Cantonese teaching, exchange of special snacks and cultural handcraft workshop will be organised for South Asian children to familiarize with the local culture as well as for volunteers to understand South Asian cultures.
2021 Fujia Quanzhou Spring Project

This project aims to serve children of prisoners by providing them with chances to connect with the outside world. A 5-day overnight camp will be organised for the children. Leaning activities on mental health, humanities and science will be conducted. Children will also visit cultural heritage in Quanzhou to learn Chinese history. Each child will be matched with a volunteer so that they can feel the warmth given by the society.
2021 Medical Outreachers Leprosy Sichuan Service Trip

Project Location: Sichuan
Leprosy remains a scourge in China, where sufferers live out their lives in isolation, ostracised by society. In this project, the team would visit two Leprosy Rehabilitation Villages to carry out various health-related activities. A rehabilitation workshop will be held in which participants will demonstrate different exercises to restore leprosy patients to maximal physical well-being, whose daily activities are severely hampered by injured body parts. Apart from that, health education will be conducted to correct villagers’ misconceptions and remind them of the correct health practices in order to raise their health awareness and quality of life. In addition, health surveys and health checks will be conducted to spot abnormal patterns in their body conditions and pave the way for intervention in the future.
2021 Medical Outreachers Sichuan Education and Service Trip

Project Location: Sichuan
The 7th Sichuan Medical Service Trip is co-organized by Medical Outreachers (MO) and long-term NGO partner MediCare Resource Ltd to serve primary school students and rural villagers in Liangshan. To sustain the health education in Liangshan, the team would design a set of materials for primary 6 students with topics like smoking, alcohol abuse and sex education. To supplement the curriculum designed in past years, new initiatives from infectious disease and non-communicable disease will be devised. The team would also conduct health survey, health checks and home visits for the villagers in order to promote hygiene practices and pave way for further intervention in the future.
