Seven book talks are arranged in the 5th I∙CARE Book Festival. Details of them are listed below:

 
Screening of documentary “Birds of Passage: A Writer of Our City” cum post-screening sharing

Speaker’s biography

Mr. Ho Fuk Yan is an author and poet in Hong Kong. His works include Western Science Fiction Literature and Film (2018) and The Topic of Time: collected Conversations (1996) which recorded his dialogue with Xi Xi. Other literary products of him are《像她們這樣的兩個女子》(2017) and《那一隻生了厚繭的手》 (2015), etc. Mr. Ho is Xi Xi’s close friend and the director of this documentary.

Prof. Mary Wong received her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from The University of Hong Kong and is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Chinese of Lingnan University. She is the author of《女性書寫:電影、文學與生活》and Hong Kong Cinema and Literature: Writer, Film and Adaptation. Her major editorial works include 1950s Hong Kong Literature and Culture Series (6 volumes) and Hong Kong.1960s, and she has co-edited the Hong Kong Literature and Cinema,《劉以鬯與香港現代主義》and Yesi and His 1960s. Prof. Wong was the literary consultancy and co-director of Liu Yichang: 1918 and Yesi: Boundaryless in “The Inspired Island” documentary series. She also published essay collections including《理性的游藝:從卡夫卡談起》,《亂世破讀》and《悲傷的日子如何過》.

Speaker’s biography

Prof. Roger Chung is the Associate Professor at Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has been engaged in social epidemiology and health equity research. As a social epidemiologist by training, he uses the lens of biomedical ethics and justice to examine the social determinants of health and health inequalities. He is currently examining social determinants of health inequity and conducting research on aging‐related issues, such as multimorbidity and long‐term / end‐of‐life care. Collectively, the purpose of his research is to inform health services and public policy, domestically and beyond. In The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prof. Chung is Co-Director of the Centre for Bioethics, founding Associate Director of the Institute of Health Equity, founding member of the Centre for Health Systems and Policy Research, founding member of the Research Centre for Migration and Mobility, executive member of the Centre for Quality of Life, and Research Fellow (by courtesy) at the Institute of Ageing. Internationally, Prof. Chung is the Vice Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network’s Public Health Steering Committee, and was also elected as the National Academy of Medicine International Health Policy Fellow (2018-21). In 2019, he co-edited a best-selling and award-winning book entitled What Life and Death Education Talks About. Apart from his academic life, he is an award‐winning singer and producer.


Dr. Fan Ning graduated from The University of Hong Kong and is currently Associate Consultant of the Surgical Department. He serves as Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor at both The University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In the latter institution, Dr. Fan is a mentor of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care and an elite mentor of the MBA programme. On the other hand, Dr. Fan is the founder of Health in Action, a non-profit organisation with a focus on promoting health equity in Hong Kong. This organisation actively promotes the concept of “Symbiotic Community Health” and puts it in practice in the community. It assists various welfare organisations in setting up networks of basic healthcare on a cross-sector and cross-profession basis, and initiates “Health in All Policies”. Dr. Fan is also the founder of another non-profit organisation Forget Thee Not, which provides one-stop innovative and personalised hospice care and green funeral services, as well as establishes the mode of social service by adopting a case management approach.

Prof. Fan Sin-piu is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research interests span Hong Kong literature, modern Chinese prose and literature of the Jian’an Period. Prof. Fan is the author of, among others,《諦聽雜音:報紙副刊與香港文學生產(1930 - 1960 年代)》 (2019), 《清濁與風骨 ── 建安文學研究反思》 (2017),《爐外之丹:文學評論及其他》(2011). He is also the editor of《香港文學大系 1950 - 1969 ‧ 散文卷一》 (2021) and《香港文學大系 1919 - 1949.散文卷一》(2014), etc.

Micah is a critic. He co-founded THE KONGNER, a cultural media, and the alike channel Happy Kongner. His works covers cultural critique, communication and value creation, hoping to link up local producers, creators and consumers via media.


Prof. Enoch Tam is currently Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual Studies of Lingnan University. He specialises in Hong Kong film and teaches courses on Hong Kong’s creative media industries.

First graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Prof. Carmen Tsui is a registered architect and a Ph.D. holder of the University of California, Berkeley. She is currently Associate Professor in the Department of History of Lingnan University. Her research interests span cultural and historical heritage, housing history of China and Hong Kong, history of architecture and urbanism. She was one of the hosts of the RTHK Programme《建築意》aiming at arousing public awareness of the urban history and architectural heritage.
