I·CARE mobilises and equips students to practice Social Engagement

Founded in 2011, the I·CARE Programme is currently administered by the I·CARE Centre for Whole-person Development which was set up in October of 2016. More importantly, it has all the way been overseen and advised by the Steering Committee for Promoting Personal Development through Social and Civic Engagement. Admittedly, “Social Engagement” is one of the emphases of the I·CARE Programme. It aims to do good to people's well-being finally by grooming students as prudent thinkers and empathic carers, and equipping them with professional knowledge and creativity to address social problems.

“Social Engagement” refers to the extent to which people partake in a broad range of social roles and relationships, and their involvement in the community that reinforces social capital and norms. It can be attained via volunteering, service-learning, in-depth research, policy advocacy and setting up social enterprise, etc. Bearing this in mind, CUHK has long encouraged students to be actively involved in social services and civic participation through which they may translate their learning into practice and contribute to society. All colleges, different University units and this Centre provide numerous experiential learning opportunities for students to get a taste of “Social Engagement” and go for implementation.
