CUHK Bridge to China Team still picking up momentum

CUHK Bridge to China Team is a university volunteering team formed under this Centre with the support and guidance from Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation. Since 2009, the team has participated in and organised numerous bridge building projects, village investigation trips and public health programmes with the help of CUHK students. Although the COVID-19 pandemic has precluded the team from partnering its cooperating institutions to carry out services in the Mainland last year and at present, members of it do not give up chances to enhancing themselves through study tours and team-building activities. They are also expected to join local construction projects in due course.

Regarding the study tours, the CUHK Bridge to China Team of the last session (i.e. 2020-21) conducted the “Visit to Yim Tin Tsai Village” on the 16th of October last year. Located in Sai Kung, the village has a history of 300 years and is resided by the Hakka Catholic community. The core members went there to not only learn about the Hakka culture but also examine the design and conservation concept of its facilities. This visit allowed the core members to practise skills of village investigation so as to get themselves prepared for the Mainland construction projects in future.

As for the CUHK Bridge to China Team of the current academic year, the recruitment of core members was completed in October of last year and a total of 11 students were selected through interview. They then took part in the first meeting held on the 12th of November to build team rapport. Through various ice-breaking activities and interesting games led by the core members of the last session’s team, they established a closer relation with each other and cultivated a sense of belonging to the team, not to mention the acquisition of tips for designing and implementing services.

This Centre will continue walking with the CUHK Bridge to China Team to develop the community in remote areas and improve people’s living condition in the Mainland.
