I·CARE Theatre 2022-23



Organised by this Centre and supported by The Office of the Arts Administrator, the I·CARE Theatre will arrange screening of several intriguing films in the second term of this academic year. Details are set out below:

Synopsis The Queen of Golden Wheel Kingdom had an affair with her cousin West Poison, and they planned to take over the Kingdom. The Princess discovered their treason, but she was defeated by West Poison. She fled and sought for her master's help. With the help of East Evil, South Emperor, North Beggar and Chow Po-tong, she challenged West Poison again and a long fight then began.

Synopsis The story centered on Ouyang Feng, a heartbroken man who spent his days alone in the desert, connecting expert swordsmen with those seeking contract killing. As Ouyang narrated his tale, which interweaves with the stories of his unusual clients, old friends and future foes, he began to realise the mistakes of his own past, and how his fear of rejection may have led him to a life of exile. Ashes of Time Redux was created by the Director Wong Kar-wai 15 years after the release of the original version. The original version was nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay in the 14th Hong Kong Film Awards.

Synopsis

When charismatic English Professor John Keating arrives at a conservative boys’ boarding school, his unconventional teaching methods breathe new life into the curriculum steeped in tradition. With his wit and wisdom, Keating inspires his students to pursue individual passions and make their lives extraordinary. He encourages the students to form a “Dead Poet Society”, in which they read poems and talk about lives freely. Consequently, Keating takes the blame of inappropriate indulgence and is forced to resign from his teaching post.


This film was awarded the Best Original Screenplay in the 62nd Academy Awards.

Synopsis

Fleur is the blue angel in one of Hong Kong's "flower houses" - bordellos and night clubs of the 1930s. As a detached and beautiful performer, she falls in love with Twelfth Master Chan from an affluent family. Their relationship does not gain approval of Chan’s parents though, and they agree to a suicide pact and meet again in the netherworld. After waiting for Chan for 53 years, Fleur's spirit appears in a newspaper office, in the hope of placing an advertisement to find Chan……


This film was awarded the Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay and other awards in the 8th Hong Kong Film Awards.

  • Admission for registered participants will start 30 minutes before the screening. Please reserve ample time for registration at the University entrance (if necessary).

  • Free seating is made on a first-come-first-served basis.

  • Walk-in participants will be admitted five minutes before the screening.
